A calorie is a unit of energy. And it is truly as simple as that. A common question is whether different types of calories affect our bodies differently i.e. is eating 1,000 calories of chocolate or French fries the same as eating 1,000 calories of grilled salmon and veggies?? Yes and No. And here is why:
YES – A calorie at the end of the day is a calorie. In order to lose weight, you need to eat fewer calories than what you burn. It is truly all about the numbers.
NO – How much you eat is indeed important but what you eat is also important. Technically, you could eat high fat foods (even high saturated fat foods e.g. French fries, chocolate) and still lose weight; but you would have a higher percentage of body fat.
So the real focus is on GOOD CALORIES that promote lasting energy, healthy body composition, longer satiety and offer micronutrients for overall health.
